Real Madrid's 2012/13 preseason tour began yesterday
in Oviedo, Spain up against Real Oviedo at Nuevo Tartiere Stadium. The preseason began on July 16th
for the men in white – except for the Euro 2012 internationals and Marcelo (who
will be playing in the Olympics) – when they returned to Valdebebas (Real
Madrid City) to undergo medical examinations and begin training. It's quite strange to be at this point of the
preseason and not have any new
signings, but nevertheless, the boys are back.
July 16 – Players who did not play the Eurocopa are due at Valdebebas.
July 23 – Benzema due back.
July 24 – Friendly against Real Oviedo in Oviedo.
The team will return to Madrid after the clash and
remain there until the 27th, when the men travel to Lisbon to face
Benfica in the fifth edition of the Eusébio Cup. Benfica won the Cup of Portugal and reached
the UCL quarterfinals last season.
July 27 – Friendly against Benfica in Lisbon [Eusébio Cup].
The Eusebio Cup has gathered some of the best teams
in the world in the last four years.
Some of those teams include AC Milan, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and
Tottenham Hotspur. Real Madrid poses to
be the first Spanish club to participate in the tournament.
July 28 –
Players who played the Eurocopa due back. Team travels to the US.
August 02 – LA Galaxy in Los Angeles – World Football Challenge.
Los Blancos travel to the United States for the World Football
Challenge, heading to Los Angeles first, and will train at UCLA's
facilities. This will not be the first
time the men will face the other
galácticos.
August 05 – Santos
Laguna in Las Vegas – WFC.
Three days later, RM will visit Sin City for the
first time in club history for a friendly against Santos Laguna at Sam Boyd
Stadium. The Mexican side won the last
Clausura Tournament and may be better prepared for this WFC match, having
played three Apertura games against San Luis, Chivas, and Puebla beforehand. Originally, los Blancos were set to play against Juventus.
August 08 – AC Milan in New York (@ Yankee Stadium) – WFC.
New York will host yet another football match at
Yankee Stadium this summer. This will be
RM's fifth gam in the city since 1927.
Opponents will be Italy's AC Milan, who are no strangers to the Spanish
side, having met them in battle on numerous occasion.
August 11 – Celtic FC in Philadelphia – WFC.
Real Madrid's final clash of the WFC will be against
Scottish Premier League winners Celtic FC.
They will play at Lincoln Financial Field, where Real Madrid faced
Philadelphia Union last preseason.
August 12 – Return to Madrid.
August 13 –
Marcelo back from Olympics.
August 18-19 – Jornada 1, vs. Valencia.
August 23 – First leg of Supercopa in
Barcelona.
August 25-26 – Jornada 2, at Getafe.
August 29 – Second leg of Supercopa in
Madrid.
TBD – friendly
against Millonarios – Trofeo Bernabéu.
The 2012/13 Liga schedule has been released, which can
be seen here.
RM will kick off its defense of the Liga title against Valencia. Sidenote?
Whenever Madrid and Valencia have met in the first jornada,
one of the two wins the league title. This has happened seven times, with
Madrid winning five times and Valencia twice.
