November is coming to a close and some big news has come to the MLS. All-star Didier Drogba recently declined a one year extension offer from Chelsea, opening up some possibilities for MLS clubs. Drogba’s agent specifically mentioned the L.A. Galaxy as a possible home for the Ivory Coast international. With another MLS title under their belts, the Galaxy will be hungry to keep their dominance over the league. Another big name like Drogba may very well cement their spot at the top for years to come. However, this possible move comes down to money. Teams from Russia and Qatar have also showed interest in Drogba, so it appears whoever drops the most money will obtain him.
Another
large name with a possible move coming to the MLS is Michael Ballack. Despite an injury plagued career, the
former German National Team captain may very well become a great leader for
most any MLS squad. It has been
speculated that the New York Red Bulls may be interested
in Ballack.
Many Central
American stars may be making a move to the MLS, as well. Costa Rican international Heiner Mora
may come over to Seattle at right back.
Guatemalan Marvin Alvela has been linked to the Houston Dynamo. Georgie Welcome of Honduras has also
displayed some interest in a move to the MLS.
While it is
refreshing to see so many international stars come to the MLS, it is quite
frustrating to see the league’s richest squads drop money on any skilled
foreigner to maintain their winning ways.
It would be great to see some of these names end up in Toronto,
Portland, or Chicago. If the
Drogba and Ballack moves indeed pull through we may see an unprecedented
dominance from New York and L.A. in the 2012 MLS season.
