Hola, Madridistas!  Real Madrid played against Sevilla to a 4-1 victory at home.  Cristiano Ronaldo led his team to victory, scoring a hattrick, and perhaps sending his former club, Manchester United, a message of what to expect in their upcoming UCL clash.  The 28-year-old earned his 20^th – yes, you read that right – hattrick with los Blancos tonight in addition to assisting Karim Benzema, who scored his 50^th Liga goal at the 18' minute mark.

Victory Sees La Liga Title Within Reach for Real Madrid

Real Madrid faced Sevilla today at the Santiago Bernabéu, winning 3-nil against the Andalusian visitors.  This now puts los Blancos one victory away from winning the La Liga title and ten points clear of runner-ups, and bitter rival, FC Barcelona.  However, if Barça loses tonight against Rayo Vallecano, the men in White can already claim the title as theirs.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener at the 19^' minute mark when Karim Benzema found him on the left side of the box.  The Portuguese international feigned a shot, committing Sevilla GK Koke to the challenge, before sending the ball to the back of net.  This goal would be his 43^rd in the league. ¡Felicidades, crack!

Sevilla had many opportunities of goal later in the half, notably by Jesus Navas and Álvaro Negredo, whose attempts sailed over the bar.  Both men faced Iker Casillas in one-on-one situations, which made missing that much more disappointing and furthered their frustration.  It's not to say that los Blancos didn't experience any blunders or moments of exasperation themselves.

Atletico vs. Sevilla, Good Football With No Result

Sevilla and Atletico faced each other at Pizjuan for a much anticipated game. They ended up tying, and both teams went home with an insignificant result that does not help them move forward on the table. They are now still tied up at 8 victories, 9 ties, and 9 losses (8-9-9) -- with 33points each.

Good start up in the first couple minutes for both teams, but Sevilla with more possession of the ball. Atletico tight on the defense trying to contain the home team and trying to attack,but was not able to until minute 8. Gabi Fernandez, gave the perfect cross from the  leftside to the center of the area. It was Adrian making a diagonal run pulling a defender away from the Atletico forward Salvio.  With that, Salvio had more space and time to finish and score  with a world class header to his lower right corner. A nice anticipation to the ball from the Argentinean, that got in front of the defender when the ball was crossed.

Atletico to Face Sevilla in Decisive Match

The Atletico / Sevilla game tomorrow will be one of great expectations.  This match gives the clubs a chance to differentiate themselves from one another since they are neck and neck with eight victories, with eight ties, nine losses (8-8-9)—leaving them with 32 points each.  Another indication that these teams are balanced is that both Atletico and Sevilla have a different driver on the wheel.   Sevilla has their new coach Michel, and Atletico has Simeone.  These new coaches have given a new face to these teams, and a decisive game is in front of them.

Sevilla Finds First Season Defeat

Valencia’s latest game was their second away in La Liga at Sevilla, and they left very much to be desired. Valencia came to a deserved 1-0 defeat courtesy of Frederic Kanoute in just 18 minutes. Valencia had some great chances coming from Jonas, but none of the shots were converted for goals. The second half would be more of the same, with Valencia struggling to create chances while Sevilla bombarded the Valencia goal. Guaita managed to keep the score from becoming a goleada, but the outfield simply couldn’t do enough to level the score. Valencia’s best chance came from Aritz Aduriz. Aduriz was brought down in the box on 67 minutes, giving Valencia the penalty. Banega took the penalty, and while he managed to wrong foot the keeper Javi Varas, he hit the post and the ball bounced harmlessly to a Sevilla player who cleared. 

The game wasn’t without its controversy with 3 red cards being dished out. Sevilla was reduced to 9 men by the end of the match while Aduriz earned himself a red card, undeservedly as the Sevilla defender could’ve earned himself an Oscar given his performance after receiving contact from the Basque striker.

In the end it was Varas that proved to be the hero as he was unbeatable in goal, allowing Sevilla to hold on to the 3 points. It was clear that Valencia was still exhausted from the Barcelona game and could not cope on this day.
