Valencia 1-0 Granada
This past weekend Valencia squared off against Granada CF. Valencia
went into the match huge favorites playing at home against newly promoted
Granada. The match did not satisfy the expectations of a great game, and
outside of the first few minutes the match was largely uneventful.
Valencia started very well, as expected, controlling possession and
taking the game to Granada. This all culminated with Sergio Canales’s first goal wearing VCF colors. The goal was a half
chance at best (perhaps better goalkeeping would’ve kept the score level). After
some neat interplay at the top of the box, Pablo
Piatti back heeled a pass to Canales, whose initial touch was not the best,
but was able to make some space for himself and unleashed a left footed blast
at goal. The shot whizzed just past Granada goalkeeper Roberto and tucked itself in at the bottom right corner of the net.
Canales looked delighted to have finally gotten off the mark for his new club.
That was the only goal of the game as
Valencia could not finish much better than that and Granada found
chances hard to come by.
Valencia will be happy with the win, but they will be wondering how
they did not score more and better outclass their much weaker opposition on the
day.
