Abidal Not Ready for a New Contract with Barcelona
Eric Abidal is a key player for Barcelona. He is a force to be reckoned
with at defense on the left or as a center back. He missed some of last
season due to a tumor in his liver. However, Abidal made it back in time for the
second leg of the champions league semifinal versus arch-rival, Real
Madrid. Abidal also played some minutes in the UEFA Champions League final
against Man U and was given the captains armband. He has played all 4 games for Barcelona this season and 2 for France.
Abidal has the desire to retired at Barcelona, but he feels he is not at
full fitness. According to Barcelona's official website, he does not
want to negotiate a new contract until he is 100%. Abidal also stated,
"out of respect to the club, I have to put my health first."
