FIFA hosted an awards gala on Monday in Zurich, Switzerland. It was here that they named eleven players that consist of the “Dream Team “or the best of the best of European football. All eleven selected players were from Spanish La Liga. Of course the majority are from either Real Madrid or Barcelona, but it was great to see Radamel Falcao representing Atletico Madrid in the lineup. The Colombian striker has become one of the most sought out strikers in Europe and fully deserves to be selected in the Top 11.
Though it is an honor to La Liga to completely sweep the top starting lineup selection, many criticize FIFA for being bias to the Spaniards. Many would have wished to see representation from Premier League as well as Serie A and the Bundesliga.
The complete “Dream Team” is as follows: Iker Casillas as goal keeper, Dani Alves, Marcelo, Gerard Pique, and Sergio Ramos for defence, Xavi Hernadez, Andres Iniesta, and Xabi Alonso in the midfield, and Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, and Radamel Falcao as the selected attackers.
Also, Messi won his fourth Ballon D’Or and Spanish National Team coach, Vicente Del Bosque, won coach of the year after losing out to Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, the last two years.
