Galaxy Leads the MLS into the Playoffs

On Friday, the LA Galaxy secured their spot in the playoffs and they did it against the defending MLS Champions, the Colorado Rapids.  Donovan scored the only goal of the game, which makes it 12 for him this season, tying him for most goals in the league with Thierry Henry.

The game also saw the return of Chad Barrett, Bryan Jordan, Paolo Cardoza and keeper Donavan Ricketts.  Also returning to the team is veteran Forward Robbie Keane.  Although the energetic striker didn’t get to use his famous summersault celebration like he did in his debut game, he did get in a good 30 minutes of game time.

Galaxy are in great standing, not only by leading their conference, but they also lead the league in points by 7 points.  Also they are undefeated at home with a 9-0-5 record, out-scoring opponent 10-1.  Midfielder David Beckham said “It was important that we were on top of our game and for most of the game we were”.  Beckham started the quick passing sequence that set up Donovan’s fantastic finish.

The Galaxy sits on top of the league but that’s not to say they’re guaranteed anything in the playoffs.  However, if you had to guess who the most confident team in the league was right now, you probably wouldn’t be wrong if you named the Los Angeles GALAXY.
