Last season, Barcelona FC's central defender Carles
Puyol missed a crucial amount of playing time due to consistent
pain in his knee from a past injury. He underwent surgery after the
2010 Champions League final in London. The surgery kept him out for 3
months and he has missed some of the 2011 season with Barca as well as
with the Spanish national team.
Carles Puyol was quoted in espnsoccer.net saying
that he almost retired because “the pain was so agonizing.” Puyol is a
major factor for the back 4. It is great that he did not retire and is
back to full health. Now he is fully recovered and was called to play
in the Euro Championships with Spain as they prepare to defend their
title.
