Players from El America were asked to give their opinion about their recent
game against Las Chivas this past Sunday. When asked about the game,
Angel Reyna, mid-fielder, exploded on camera and said, “We have a defense made
of plastic,” and stormed off as the reporters and camera men stood stunned at
what the player said about his fellow teammates. After his fiery comment, media grilled Reyna’s teammates,
looking to find their opinions regarding the aggressive stance Reyna took.
Of course, the most important opinions were those of the defensive players
themselves. Aquivaldo Mosquera mentioned
that it wasn’t fair that Reyna was laying blame upon the defense— things
happen. He said, “In good and bad we should stick together.” Another
defensive player that spoke out about the situation was Oscar Rojas. He
said that obviously no one likes to be blamed for the loss of a game and that
they will “try and talk to him and fix what he said.”
Reyna may have been upset when he said this, but it’s entirely unprofessional
to explode that way against your own teammates. Like Mosquera said, “In
good and bad you stick together.” Sounds like there are going to be more
problems for El America than there already were, doesn’t it? How will manager
Tena fix all of this? Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
