Valencia CF Injury Woes and International Updates

Players who have been called up to their national teams:

Ricardo Costa-Portugal (10 caps)
Hedwiges Maduro-Netherlands (18 caps)
Jonas - Brazil (2 caps)
Éver Banega- Argentina (12 caps)
Adil Rami- France (14 caps)

Hedwiges Maduro has been called up but will be unable to add to his 18 international caps having injured himself in a training session with the Netherlands.   He has damaged ligaments in his knee during an awkward turn and will require surgery. The Dutch midfielder will go into surgery on Monday. This injury will see him sidelined for about two months. This is bad news for Los Che as defensive midfielder Mehmet Topal is still out with a shoulder injury. Fellow defensive midfielder David Albelda has only recently recovered from a back injury. Albelda is indeed healthy and can play, but he is aging which may result in tiring more quickly during matches and becoming more injury prone overall. Without Maduro, Valencia CF manager Unai Emery is short on options for the defensive midfield position.

Over the international break, Brazilian forward, Jonas, and Argentinean midfielder, Éver Banega, both saw playing time with their national teams. Éver Banega played almost the full 90 in Argentina’s  healthy 4-1 victory over Chile. Adil Rami played an important role for the French national side as center back in defense.  The French national side has seen mostly positive results with a 3-0 win over Albania and a two draws against Romania and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

International hopefuls Ricardo Costa, Mehmet Topal, Jordi Alba, and Jeremy Mathieu did not make appearances for their respective national teams, but will be hoping that they continue to impress during the season so to merit another call-up in the future.
