Gunners Celebrate 125 Years with Victory

December 10th was a wonderful day for English Football Club Arsenal F.C.  The Gunners battled against a strong Everton side and edged out a 1-0 victory.  This victory saw Arsenal back into the top four of the Barclays Premier League.  The day’s success allowed Arsenal to properly enjoy 125 years as a club.

Arsenal legends such as record goal scorer Thierry Henry, crucial midfielder Robert Pires, and all-time appearance holder David O’Leary were in attendance for the match.  With all these famous and essential figures in attendance, the pressure was on for the current squad to bring home a win.
Arsenal pressured quickly trying to penetrate the Everton defense.  This pressure led to many chances in the first half to score.  The most notable chance came from a Theo Walcott and Gervinho combo which failed to find the back of the net.  Gunner shots rained in, but American goalkeeper Tim Howard was in top form, maintaining a clean sheet into the break.

After 70 minutes of goalless sparring, Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie struck gold.  A cross from the boot of Alex Song found Van Persie in the box, where he volleyed an unblockable shot, leaving Tim Howard dumbfounded in front of the posts.  This moment of genius was all Arsenal needed for the victory on this, their 125 year anniversary.  It seems appropriate that Van Persie gave the deathblow to Everton; he is only a handful of goals away from breaking many club records.

This game may have been crucial to Arsenal’s league effort and their celebration of 125 years, but it also sent out a message to all opponents in the Barclay’s Premier League.  This victory proved that despite a slow start in Premier League football, Arsenal F.C. isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
