A Decade for Messi

It’s hard to believe Lionel Messi is only 25 years old and has already had 10 years with the Barcelona first team—12 if you include his time with La Masia (Barcelona’s youth squad) since arriving from Rosario, Argentina.  Lionel Messi has already accomplished many achievements; he has won five La Liga titles, five Spanish Super cups, three Champions League trophies,  two UEFA Super cups and one Spanish Copa Del Rey.   Not to mention, Messi is on route to becoming Barcelona's all-time leading scorer.  He currently has 222 goals—trailing behind César Rodriguez’s astounding 235 goals in official matches.  At the pace he is currently playing, Messi will more than likely break that scoring record this season!

This past weekend Messi appeared for the 200
th time for Barcelona.  In that match against Valencia, he scored four of the team’s five goals.  He is the youngest to achieve that feat in Barcelona and the 12th youngest in Spain to do so.  Xavi Hernandez holds the record for most appearances with 592 appearances in official matches.

Yet another feat for Messi this season was winning the Balon D'or for a third consecutive time— becoming the youngest player to do so.
Lionel seems to get better and better to help his team.  As a fan of football and a fan of Barcelona it is an absolute joy getting to witness Lionel Messi play week in and week out with such pace and tenacity.  I believe he has not yet reached his peak, which is a nightmare for any other opposing team.
