There
have been some major events with with Las Aguilas before the end of Clausura
2012 and the beginning of La Liguilla. A
male on male kiss, a visit from the owner, and a rejection of time change for
the upcoming game are just a few of the things that have occurred since last
week. With the end of Clausura coming up, America is ready to win the
upcoming game against Cruz Azul and be at the top of the general scoreboard.
The FMF
(Mexican Soccer Federation) declined Cruz Azul the petition to change the time
of Sunday’s game. The reason as to why Cruz Azul asked for the change is
because they have too many games back to back, but the FMF declined the
petition anyway. The reason the petition was declined, according the
General Director of the FMF, was because there are regulations that must be
met, and once those regulations have been set there cannot be any
changes. El “Rolfi” Montenegro came out and asked the Cruz Azul directors
to stop whining and get it together! He said, “The same thing happened to
us last year, and no one helped us.”
This
week, Emilio Azcarraga, owner of El America, came out to visit the team as they
practiced for the upcoming game. Paul Aguilar, defensive player, assured
us that this visit was a good one. He mentioned that Azcarraga came to
congratulate them on their magnificent work during the tournament and to cheer
them on for the upcoming game against Cruz Azul. El Piojo Herrera
mentioned that Azcarraga came and talked to the players, and asked them to keep
rising and to reach for the best!
After
Christian Benitez scored the 3rd goal for Las Aguilas, he and Matias Vuoso
celebrated by simulated a kiss
between the two; Benitez put his hand between both their lips to avoid the real
deal. Even though it was not a real kiss, the “situation” was taken to
the offices of Alfonso Sabater, director of the Disciplinary Commission.
“This is
not the image we want to give children. I think we can’t take this as a
good example, and we don’t want this to be an example to anyone. We have
been regulating the festivities; before they climbed the fence and this is no
longer allowed, nor is taking off their shirts,” said Sabater. He went on
the say that a letter was going to be sent to the team asking them to not
repeat this. “This is not a proper celebration for the public to see,”
Sabater went on to say.
This has
been top news since Sunday, and has even gotten the Gay and Lesbian society in
Mexico involved. They believe that the Disciplinary Commission is being
homophobic, and everyone who agrees that it is wrong as well. They went
on to say, “The Soccer Federation is stating that players are not allowed to
demonstrate their feelings of attraction towards members of the same sex.”
It
appears that the simulation was just a way to celebrate and not that both
players feel an attraction towards the other.
Fans and players alike have shared their opinions about the kiss.
What do you think? Should the players not be allowed to celebrate in this
manner? Were they wrong for doing it?
