Well
my friends, I must say that America lost their first friendly game in the
United States. The team played against
Jaguares and lost 2-0 in a game played in Fresno, California. The team was some players short, Benitez,
Bermudez, Mosquera, Molina, Reyes and Jimenez.
Since
there were so many “older” players missing, El Piojo Herrera had to make this
games line-up out of some newer players.
It was expected that the team wouldn’t do so well without those key
players, but we all hoped it would at least score one goal. After the game, the team began to train for
their upcoming game against Xolos.
During
the game against Xolos, again another friendly game, the team opened the score
board with a goal at minute 82 by Miguel Layun.
The excitement was short lived since Fidel Martinez scored for Xolos
only 4 minutes later. The game ended
with that 1-1 tie. This game ends the
teams short tour in the U.S. and now heads to Honduras and will return to the
U.S. for their game in Tennessee.
El
“Piojo” Herrera had a short interview after the game where he mentioned his
“satisfaction” with the team. “We are
going as planned,” he said, “and that makes me very satisfied.” As for what is happening with the Benitez,
Bermudez, Mosquera and Molina they will all return to the playing field this
upcoming Friday. “El “Hobbit” Bermudez
is doing very well and we will soon check up on his training,” he mentioned in
reference to Bermudez’s recuperation from Hepatitis.
In
other news, this week Efrain Juarez played his first game with the team. "In this team, there is no room for
error, not even during friendly games," he mentioned during his interview. "Even though these games are friendly,
we take advantage of them to get in the habit of playing." He also mentioned his excitement of calling
himself an Aguilista. He is confident in
his team saying that these games have helped him know his teammates better and
to get a "feel" of the game, wearing the America's team jersey.
The
upcoming week will be grand for the team, having all the players back on the
team will make them as good as it gets!
I hope to find you all well, and until next time!
