"El Tri on to the Olympic final for the first time in history!"

Mexico played Japan during the Semifinals of the 2012 Summer Olympics.  With the '68 Olympic games still in mind, Mexico went on to take revenge against the Japanese soccer team.  Japan, unbeaten throughout the entire competition, had a lot of confidence going in, but Mexico was there to win.

Japan opened up the game with a goal by the teams player, Otsu at the 12th minute.  Japan took the lead and control of the match, but Mexico was not about to let their opponents get too far ahead.  At the 30th minute, Marco Fabian scored, Giovanni Dos Santos at the assist.  The first half of the game ended with a 1-1 draw, both teams knowing full well that they had to take the lead come second half if they wanted to find themselves in the finals.

The second half of the game began with Dos Santos being replaced by Raul Jimenez (still unknown if there was injury involved).  At minute 65, Oribe Peralta scored for a 2-1 lead against the Japanese.  The goal was a magnificent one, taken from 20 yards away.  The ball went straight past the Japanese goalie and into the back of the net!  El Tri's, Javier Cortez brought the team to a stylish win.

With Japan not putting much of an effort to score, and lacking in defense, Cortez took advantage of the opportunity and scored for the third and last time minutes before the game came to an end.  With a 3-1 victory, Mexico goes into the Olympic finals for the first time in El Tri's history!  The final will be against Brazil on August 10th.  Stay tuned!
