Chelsea humiliated while Atlético de Madrid brings home Supercup silverware

Atlético de Madrid 4:1 Chelsea
(7' Falcao), (19' Falcao), (45' Falcao), (60' Miranda); (74' Cahill)

Atlético de Madrid have added yet another crushing win to their record, and this one comes with a trophy. Last Friday, the Europa League winners destroyed the Champions League winners in the UEFA Supercup. Star striker, Radamel Falcao, scored his second hat trick in just four days, proving his exceptional ability to find the back of the net. Chelsea was utterly humiliated as their defense failed over and over again to ward off Falcao and his teammates.

Falcao showed his English opponents that he was hungry for goals right off the bat, almost scoring in the fourth minute. Just three minutes later he received a pass from midfield and found himself one on one with the keeper. He paused momentarily before artfully popping the ball over the keeper. One of Chelsea's defenders made it to the net just after the ball flew by the keeper but failed to deny Falcao his goal.

Atleti moved off the momentum created by their early goal and continued to create opportunities. Chelsea couldn't seem to get their act together as their defense wavered. Just under 20 minutes into the first half, Falcao bagged another one. He received the ball at the top right corner of the box and  casually sent the ball arching into the top left corner of the net. Yes, that is how good he is.

Just before the end of the half, Falcao received a pass from Arda Turan and continued on to dribble around a defender and score! El Tigre went hunting and came up with a hat trick! The look on Fernando Torres' face after that one was not pleasant. Wonder how it feels to see someone wearing your old jersey score three goals while you score zero.

As the second half began, onlookers were careful to see if the Blues would be able to shake off their terrible first half and regain some of their dignity. It didn't look like it was happening. 15 minutes into the second half, Miranda capitalized on a free kick from Mario Suarez further humiliating the Blues. Chelsea did manage to score one goal as Gary Cahill found the ball at his feet after a corner taken by Lampard. Cahill shot it right past Atleti's keeper. The Blues regained a fraction of their dignity but when then match ended 4-1, Atlético, they still suffered a crushing defeat.

It was a great day for Los Rojiblancos, they won their fourth European trophy since 2009. They are now two time Europa League Champions and two time Supercup champions. This win has established Atético de Madrid as a team to watch this season. Moreover, everyone is talking about Falcao. Watch out Messi and Ronaldo, you might have to make room for a third La Liga superstar.
