Sir Alex Ferguson, The "it" manager, 1000th game with Manchester United

If it was not enough that Manchester United defeated Southampton 3-2 after a poor game on Sundays match, Sir Alex Ferguson also had the honor of celebrating his 1000th game in charge of the Red Devils with a win.

Alex Ferguson started his career as Manchester United Manager on November 7 1986. One would think that as frequent as managers come and go that Ferguson would have not lasted till this day but Ferguson took a club that was unable to win a league title for 26 years to always finishing as one of the top teams every season. "He has established himself as the most successful British manager of all-time."

We all know how valuable and talented Manchester United is, but not always was this team the star of the show. Ferguson came in when Ron Atkinson had trouble lifting the Manchester United club. The clubs reputation was far below what it is today. Ferguson was focused on bringing Old Trafford the league title. It was a battle the first couple years but Ferguson never gave up. In 1990 the team won the 1990 version of the FA Cup over crystal Palace. The real turning point came in November of 1993 when he signed Eric Cantona on to the team after a chance inquiry. That season was the highlight that really started the clubs success. On May 2nd 1993 the losing streak was over. At last the pain of losing the title became joy when the team Defeat their rivals back then Aston Villa. The team was greatly criticized when Cantona was banned for attacking a fan. Fans said they would never win a league title again. But Manchester United did the "Double-Double" and won the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

The Cinderella story continued for Manchester United as the years went by but Ferguson knew how to handle the pressure by not giving up. The 1998-99 season was magical for Sir Alex and his United. Manchester United were champions of the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. The struggles remained every season and soon enough United was at the top winning three straight league titles defeating their competitors Arsenal. Winning many different titles Ferguson became the "it" manager. Bringing in talented players every season United was the team to play for.

They became the team of the 1990's. On May 21, 2008, Manchester United face Chelsea in the first UEFA Champions League Final that featured two English clubs. "United took the Champions League title, as well the EPL title, on the anniversary of many significant events in club history." 2008 marked the 100th anniversary of United's first-ever league title. 40th anniversary of the first trophy in the European league won by United, the 50th anniversary of the Munich plane crash that took the lives of eight United players.

In the 2010-2011 season Manchester United had the honor of taking the Premier League title. United won their 19th top flight title beating Liverpool as the most successful club in English history. Ferguson was manager for 12 of those titles.

Now in 2012 they continue to be at the top. Ferguson did and will continue to face struggle with United but as the most successful British manager of all time he continues keep his team at the top. As his 1000th game with the team ended in their favor it does not look like Ferguson will be leaving the club any time soon and will continue to have many more accomplishments with the team.
