Atletico Madrid's win against Malaga leaves them tied for 1st with Barcelona

Atletico Madrid 2:1 Malaga

While everyone was busy watching El Clásico, Atletico Madrid closed in even further on La Liga leaders, Barcelona. Their win against Malaga gives them 19 points, the same number as Barcelona. Los Rojiblancos are also ahead of city rivals, Real Madrid by 8 points. Malaga was a tough team to beat and was a vital win for Atleti with respects to the league standings.

Radamel Falcao proved to Malaga that tAtleti wasn't quite ready to give up their winning streak just yet. El Tigre scored an excellent goal in the 6th minute to give the home side an early lead. Turkish international, Emre Belozoglu, sent a great cross into the center, and Falcao dove to head the ball into the net off the bounce. Fans around the world were once again in awe of the Colombian's stunning ability to score goals on a consistent basis. With each game he proves himself more of a contender in the race for the Pichichi title.

Malaga managed to equalize 30 minutes later when Roque Santa Cruz scored a goal very similar to Falcao's, when he headed a cross past Thibaut Courtois. Atleti had many more chances to score in the second half as Adrian and Falcao gave Malaga's defense a run for their money. Disappointingly, they couldn't seem to capitalize on their efforts.

When it looked like it was going to end as a draw, Malaga scored an own goal to give Los Colchoneros the win. El Tigre was on the prowl in the box. When the ball came in his direction after a header, he lunged toward the net to get a foot on it. However, he was sandwiched in between two Malaga defensemen, and his forward motion pushed the defender to kick the ball into the net. In celebration, Falcao jumped into Raul García's arms in a victory hug as his teammates surrounded him.

All eyes are on Atletico Madrid to see if they can hold their current position, tied for 1st place in La Liga. Their next match is against Real Sociedad on October 21st
