The End of Club America

“It’s embarrassing walking down the street knowing you are in second to last place,” said Jesus Molina, after losing to Puebla.  El America now has one game left against Cruz Azul and is, embarrassingly, in second to last place in the scoreboard of  Apertura 2011.  Their only motivation for playing is to stay out of last place with all hope of getting into La Liguilla lost.

After yet another loss, the players disheartened, their heads hanging low, walked off the field into the dressing room and for some of them, the last time as Americanstas.  Players and managers have said that in the next couple of weeks, many players will be cut from the team in hopes that the team will rise out of this embarrassing losing streak .

Many have expressed their opinions, saying that players on El America only play because they get paid well to be on the team and not because they have the spirit to be a formidable competitor.  This is not to say that there are not players on the team who don’t have the passion to be on the team. The question remains:  Is changing the team line up the best way to go? The following weeks will reveal who will retain the right of being an Americansta player.
