On October 19, 2011 when Barcelona hosted Pilzen in the Champions league, an unknown
Barça player by the name of Isaac Cuenca made his first team debut in the 88th
minute. He is a player that has
risen through the ranks of La Masia like Leonel Messi, Puyol, and Xavi before
him. I watched that game and
understood why Pep Guardiola
let him play. Barça was winning
2-0 and he could use a bit of experience with first team play.
This weekend Barça hosted Mallorca at home. Pep must have liked what Cuenca did against Pilzen and in
trainings leading up to this game because he gave him his first start. He worked as a forward, but played like
Messi coming back into the midfield.
I was really impressed by how he played and how he combined well with
the rest of the team. His crosses
were very good and he got his first senior goal with the assistance of
Adriano. I can see him starting
again for the Champions league when Barça take on Pilzen once again. He has
some things to improve on and he will definitely grow as a player working
alongside the likes of Messi, Piqué, Villa, and Fábregas.
