Luis
Suarez lit up the scoreboard and
torched the net in for Uruguay today's COMMBOL World Cup 2014 Qualifier against
Chile in Montevideo, Uruguay. Los CharrĂșas displayed a dominant performance against the Chilean side in a lopsided
match for La Celeste.
With
Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Jorge Valdivia, and Gonzalo Jara all out of the match, La
Roja was already prepared to face an
uphill battle against the COMMEBOL favorites. With the exception
of Humberto Suazo, the Chilean team
had a limited attack, that showed little signs of life through the match,
not to mention that Vidal's and Valdivia's
absence left the gap in the midfield wide open
for the Uruguayans to weave through the pitch with ease.
At the end of the first 45, La Celeste was able to
hold a comfortable 2-0 lead. Suarez continued to
rain goals with a stunning laser header in the 67 minute. Six minutes later, he
was able to wrap the game up with a
low screaming blast to the bottom left side of the helpless Chilean goalkeeper
Claudio Bravo.
Based on Suarez's recent play in the Premier League, a performance like today's match was long overdue. Suarez was able to find the onion bag
on four different occasions and finish in astonishing fashion.
Uruguay now finds themselves in the same position they were in after this past
summer's Copa America, which
is being on top of the
highly touted COMMEBOL region. Next
on tap for Uruguay is a Friendly Match against the streaking Italians.
