The third round of the South
American qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup on 11/11/11 could not have
been a better
one. This eventful day was
highlighted with the clash of Paraguay and Ecuador. Both
nations arrived hungry for victory. There was
also a special duel between
Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia and Paraguayan Lucas
Barrios;
both players have been have been performing extremely well for their
individual
national teams since the beginning of the South American qualifiers.
La Selección
de Ecuador, “LA TRI,” was
in search of its second consecutive victory. Unfortunately,
the result was negative, ending with a score
of 2-1, favoring Paraguay with goals coming from Cristian Riveros and
Dario
Veron. Riveros’ first goal arrived
at the 46th minute. The
goal was very hurtful for Ecuador, which arrived very early in the
second half. This blow
erased the hard work exhibited in the first half by
Ecuador. The second goal from Los
Albirrojos was registered at the 57th minute, this time from a
header during a corner kick, which connected with Dario Veron. Dario was dominant this match; his
passes, crosses, and possession all excelled despite the excellent
performance
from their rivals. Joao Rojas
scored the only goal for La Seleccion Ecuatoriana de Futbol in the dying
minutes of the match.
