Club America: El Piojo Debuts with a Tie

It’s been only two months since “El Piojo” Herrera came into the lives of the Americanistas, and progress has already been seen.  El Piojo came to Club America and immediately began to work on the team problems— not only with the group, but with the individuals as well. With Herrera’s belief that the team is as strong as its weakest player, we should look forward to a strong season.

Christian Bermudez, one of the newest players to the team, said that he feels comfortable both on the field and behind the scenes.  He mentioned that El Piojo’s goal is to make the three forwards stronger (Montenegro, Benitez and Bermudez) and to have more movement of the ball between the three.  He is very optimistic about the future of the team, but also knows that there is much work to be done.

This past weekend was El Piojo’s debut game against San Luis.  The game began great for Las Aguilas, who controlled the ball for most of the first half.  Piojo’s teamwork-oriented training really worked during the game as we saw the forwards pass, steal the ball, and lay siege to the goal.  Although the game ended in a 0-0 tie, it was to see Las Aguilas play like a team.  Miguel Herrera’s plans seem to be working out so far; we may not have gotten a win, but we didn’t lose either!

In transfer news, Fernando Navarro, midfielder from Los Tigres, will not be joining Club America.  Rumors spread about Navarro coming to Club America after he Tweeted that he did not know where his future lay.  It was assumed that El Piojo would pick him up and bring him over to Club America, but he made it clear at a conference today that he has all spots filled on his team for the moment.  It seems that Navarro is to stay with Tigres for the moment unless he decides to return to Atlante.

  1. Navarro doesn't know where his future lies, but even if he wants to return to Atlante, it't up to the team. It's just sad to see that he doesn't get as much game time as before, when he was under El Piojo's training.
