Call it what you want— brilliant, blissful, superb—
just a short list of words to describe how the red and white nation feel right now.
With two losses in their rear view mirror, the Gunners had a lot to prove in
this heavily contested match played on home turf against 3rd place
powerhouse, Tottenham Hotspur. The match started with an early lead by the
Spurs as Louis Saha’s opener found the boot of Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, who deflected the ball into the
net just four minutes in. Hotspur
would go on take a 2-0 lead after a highly disputed penalty by Emmanuel
Adebayor.
Down 2-0 before the half, the Gunners came
out of the half firing on all cylinders. Bacary Sagnas’s header from Robin van
Persie’s extraordinary cross brought the Red & White back to tie the game. Tomas Rosicky played a superb game and
would go on to score Arsenal’s third goal just six minutes after the half. As
if that wasn’t enough for the North London club, striker Theo Walcott insured a
victory with a one-two punch, scoring twice in six minutes. Tottenham Hotspur
played a tough game but today’s match was owned by the home team, giving the
Gunners and their fans something to really cheer about after two straight
losses.
The win puts The Arsenal back into fourth
place and narrowed the gap for third place to only seven points behind today’s
opponent. With style and grace, Arsenal were able to pull off a victory and
bring club morale back up just in time for next Saturday’s grueling match
against Liverpool.
