Sonny has Cher, Simon has Garfunkel, and now Redknapp has Bale. Tottenham Hotspurs super star Gareth
Bale has team manager Harry Redknapp “dancing like a two-year-old.” Tuesday night’s match was a joyous event
for the Spurs as they took home the win with a 3-1 score against Wigan
Athletic.
This was Gareth Bale's return to the starting line-up after missing
Friday night's FA Cup win at Watford last week, but he did more than make up
for it during this match.
The raging bull player played with quick precision and great velocity
that was able to help him score twice in the match.
Joining Gareth on the field for the first time were Ledley King, Niko
Kranjcar, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Bale delivered the first goal in the 33rd minute thanks to Luka Modric's
divine pass from the right leaving Bale to the rest as he trotted on home from
close range—a lovely shot that combined both physical and visual delight as
Bale's chest heated the ball into the net.
In-between Bale's goals, Modric struck a nice second to put Tottenham in
control at 2-0 at half-time.
It’s safe to say Wigan played dreadfully out on the field but they
reinvigorated slightly, when the excellent substitute James McArthur made the
score 3-1. That, however, was the only high point for Wigan as everything else
went downhill from then on.
Bale made Wigan's loss a reality when he wrapped up the game in the 64th
minute. Modric passed the ball
wide to Assou-Ekotto, who rolled inside to Bale and with a twitch of his hips,
Bale drilled the ball low and hard past the goal keeper Al Habsi.
It was a great match for the Spurs even though Rafael van der Vaart had
to walk off with a minor calf problem.
It’s no doubt that the Spurs appear to be heading unyieldingly towards
the Champions League at a very gracious speed. Being three points ahead of
Chelsea and Liverpool in the league just better the chances of Tottenham's
victory.
