America Trumps Pumas in Clasura Faceoff

abcdigital.com
Las Aguilas Del America faced off against Las Pumas Del UNAM in what was 11th round of Clausura 2012.  The game started off with America taking control of the ball at once.  At only minute seven, Pumas’ Jose Antonio Garcia Fernandez committed a foul against Jose Maria Cardenas in the penalty box.  Christian Benitez stepped in to make the shot from the penalty line, scoring for America at minute only minute eight!  Benitez was on a roll as he nearly missed a second goal at minute 18.  Fans cheered on as America kept control of the ball for the first half of the game, but unfortunately were unable to score again.

The second half of the game began and it seemed that both teams were eager to score, so eager that fouls were being made left and right.  America player Erik Alan Pimentel Benavides fouled against Martin Bravo from Pumas in the penalty box, earning himself a yellow card and tying the game at minute 57 with the following penalty kick.  America gained an advantage at minute 80 when Pumas’ Jose Antonio Garcia Fernandez received his second yellow card and was expelled from the game.

With a one man advantage, America was determined to kick it into high gear and score again.  It seemed that all hope was lost and that both teams would have to split the points of the game.  The moment of truth came at minute 85 when Vicente Matias Vuoso scored the second goal for the team, which secured a 2-1 victory.

America’s Miguel Herrera found himself expelled from this game again.  I am still unsure of the cause, and he did not want to talk about his expulsion during the press conference held after the game.  What he did mention was that he was a bit upset that the team didn’t play as he had expected, but that he was glad that they had won the game.  It seemed this victory served as a great present, seeing as the manager celebrated his 44th birthday today as well.
