Manchester United Stands Alone at Top

It seems to be that this season Manchester United has continuously battled to stay at the top of the chart in the Premier League. After Monday’s game against Fulham, United obtained three valuable points taking them back to the number one spot.

United is now (23-3-4) and is trying to break its own record of 20 Premier League titles. The team has 8 games left and is currently Number 1 with 73 points. Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic believes his teammates must maintain their focus even though he views them as favorites to obtain another Premier League title.
It was not an easy win as Fulham played the game with style and technique.

When the game started, United seemed to dominate the field.  Their first attempt at goal was in the 11th minute when Rafael crossed a ball meeting a header by Ryan Giggs, but Mark Schwarzer made an impressive save. Fulham gradually got into the game. Moussa Dembele shot  a wide ball giving Clint Dempsey a chance to run at Jonny Evans but shot too close to David De Gea.

There was one seldom first half goal by Wayne Rooney in the 42nd minute of play after John Arne Riise was unable to clear a cross allowing Rooney to score from the 6 yard box. This is Rooney's 21st league goal of this season.
The game became intense near the end when Fulham's Danny Murphy went down in the keeper’s box but was rejected a potential penalty.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been rotating and testing his options in the center midfield all season. Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick did a good job obtaining possession of the ball but it was not the typical game United’s midfield usually posses in the pitch.
One of the star players for Fulham in this match was Clint Dempsey. Dempsey is just one of those players with a quick and direct way of controlling the ball. He proved himself against United to be a capable key player.

Another player worth mentioning in this match is goalie David De Gea. This young Spaniard had an unconvincing start with United, however, in the most recent games, De Gea has shown his top performance as his glorious days in La Liga. De Gea took charge of the net against Fulham. He was composed and showed authority by stopping all shots. De Gea confidence seems to be growing and there is something very admirable about a player that takes harsh criticism and turns it into advice that can allow him to improve. Sir Ferguson is definitely excited to see more of him in the net.
United manager Sir Ferguson commented in regards to the game: "It's a good position to be in, but it's not decisive,". "It's a good game for us tonight. That's what it will be like for us for the rest of the season."
Can Manchester United continue to add on to their record or will Manchester City surpass them and obtain their first league title since 1968.
Their next game will take place on Monday, April 2nd at Blackburn at 3:00pm EDT.
