Rainfall in Chicago forced the Chicago Fire’s match against Houston Dynamo to be called in the 66th minute. Both teams walked away drenched, but with one point apiece towards their 2012 MLS endeavors. The Fire began the game with all pistons firing; Dominic Oduro unleashed the Fire’s first attempt on goal only two minutes into game play. Houston Dynamo’s Tally Hall kept the shot out of his net with his strong handed save.

The teams battled until the 13th minute when officials decided to suspend play. After a 70-minute delay, Houston Dynamo strung together a set of passes which made the Fire defenders lose their marks. Brian Ching saw Will Bruin running through the Fire defense unmarked and snuck a through ball to his feet. Sean Johnson, who was making his first 2012 MLS appearance, failed to put a hand on the shot as it whizzed past his tumbling effort.

The Fire, who were not to be undone, quickly responded on a free kick from the foot of Pavel Pardo. His free kick struck Fire captain Logan Pause in the back and the ricochet altered the ball movement enough to fool Dynamo keeper, Tally Hall.
Chicago almost went up 2-1 in the 32nd minute when Sebastian Grazzini pushed a ball into the box, but the weak attempt from Marco Pappa was easily saved by Dynamo’s Hall.

The Fire looked to control possession after halftime and managed to get another strike on goal in the 48th minute. Marco Pappa pushed a low free kick just wide of the post, hoping to use the wet turf to his advantage. Ten minutes later, the Fire almost drove home a goal when Pappa, Nyarko, and Grazzini linked up. Pappa found a running Nyarko who nudged the ball into the heart of the box. Unfortunately, the Argentine’s first timer soared over the crossbar and out ofplay.
The rains came again and officials called it quits for the match, leaving scores settled at 1-1. Though all points are good points, the Fire will be disappointed for not getting the full three points. They possessed much of the ball and created many more quality chances on net. They will have to hit the training grounds hard this week as they prepare for their next match against the struggling Toronto FC, who have yet to see a win this season.
