“Falcao scores 2 goals to lead Atlético Madrid to secure the Europa League Champions title”

Atlético Madrid 3:0 Athletic Bilbao
(7' Falcao), (34' Falcao), (85' Diego)

What a win for Atlético Madrid! Los Rojiblancos won with a shutout giving their fans plenty of reason to celebrate in Madrid last night. Atleti came into the game full of energy with a very visible desire to win. They played strong throughout the entire match; in fact, it was one of their most consistent matches yet. They scored two goals in the first half which is rare for them. After spending a few games failing to score, Falcao was back with a vengeance. He played a spectacular game as did keeper, Thibaut Courtois.

Atleti started out the first half with a bang, scoring a goal in the 7th minute. Falcao was ready to prove that Atleti had shown up to Bucharest for the win. El Tigre received a pass from midfield at the top right corner of the box. Facing two defenders, he cut in towards the center and used his exceptional footwork to buy just enough time to kick the ball into the top left corner of the net. The Atleti fans went wild as their beloved team won an early lead.

Following the momentum created by their first goal, Atleti continued to dominate the game. Bilbao struggled to penetrate their defense, and the few shots they did get were expertly blocked by Courtois. Both striker, Fernando Llorente, and coach, Marcelo Bielsa, began to look very frustrated. Atleti only made matters worse for the Basque team when El Tigre attacked again, scoring his second goal. He received a pass from Turan in the center of the box. Then, while surrounded by defensemen, he managed to pull the ball back to the left, creating just enough space to kick it into the back of the net, putting Atleti up by two. Falaco demonstrated some exceptional footwork and it's no surprise that he was named “Man of the Match”.

At the start of the second half, Atleti let up a bit on their previous dominance of the match. Bilbao suddenly got it together and started to put pressure on Los Colchoneros from the very start of the second half. However, Atleti's defense was making things very hard for them. On top of that, Courtois was playing a superb game. He made numerous jumping saves, further frustrating Llorente and the rest of his team. Then, in the 85th minute, Diego Ribas put an end to Bilbao's championship dreams. Diego dribbled the ball into the box, surrounded by three Basque defenders. He paused for a second and then darted forward and shot the ball into the right corner of the net. At that point, the game was Atleti's!

Though Bilbao had a few more attempts, they couldn't score and Atlético Madrid became the new Europa League Champions! The Atleti fans were wild with excitement and the players crowded around coach, Diego Simeone, celebrating their win. Only two years ago, Atleti were also crowned Europa Champions and they have now done it again! After a much deserved celebration, Atleti will move their focus to their chances at qualifying for the Champions League. They must win their next and final La Liga match against Villarreal. Also, 4th place Malaga must lose for Atleti to make up the 3 point difference between the two teams.
