Third place is no longer an option for Tottenham as they drew 1-1 against Aston Villa on Sunday. This is certainly a painful result after a long campaign with little or no help from Redknapp.
Analysts believe that once again, the Spurs were completely restrained by their manager and his potential lack of proper managing and visual techniques that coasted his squad the rights to third place.
The Spur's painful journey started in the 35th minute when they fell behind thanks to Ciaran Clark’s deflected shot off William Gallas' head from 25 yards out which eventually rammed into the right corner of the net.
This curve caught Friedel off handed as he originally had the strike targeted, but unfortunately fell short in an actual save.
As the Spurs were set back a goal, their job to perform better was vandalized in the 49th minute when Danny Rose was red-carded for a tackle on Villa's Alan Hutton that resulted in a badly bruised shin. It was a rightly red-carded tackle that Rose knew was unnecessary and irresponsible.
Despite their disadvantage, the 10-man team made a superb comeback thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor as he leveled the game in the 62 minute with a nice spot-kick.
Although a tie, the match was won in favor of Aston. Tottenham currently remains in fourth place, one point behind Arsenal and one point ahead of Newcastle. It’s this upcoming match that Redknapp is desperately hoping Roy Hodgson’s West Bromwich can beat Arsenal on the final day at The Hawthorns on Sunday. It was Hodgson who beat Redknapp for the England job and although to the dislikes of many fans, Redknapp will still remain Tottenham's boss for the Champions League. It is Redknapp's sole priority to guide his team back on track as they try to keep Chelsea away from taking their final spot in the League.
