International Week leaves injured Blancos in its wake

Madridistas, let me be the first to tell you that I feel your pain and that I share your fears.  International week has left us crippled with a number of our starters suffering injuries.  According to Real Madrid's official site, we are down a left-back, with Brasil's Marcelo sustaining a fracture in his fifth metatarsal on his right foot during a training session in Wroclaw, Poland.  In spite of having his leg in a cast, Marcelo remains in good spirits stating, "This is not enough to get anyone down, least of all me.  I am always a cheerful person.  It's happened.  I can't change it, but now I have to work hard to get back to playing."

Also suffering from injury are Gonzalo "Pipita" Higuain and Karim Benzema, two of Madrid's forwards.  Things are looking rather grim for Real Madrid, but José Mourinho is certainly looking for solutions.  According to a statement Xabi Alonso gave, it is with hope that Pipita and Benzema will be ready for the upcoming La Liga match against Celta this Saturday and Champions League match the following Wednesday.

"... It is not for me to say who has to play on the wing.  Like I said, the coach is thinking about solutions.  Whoever plays, reserves or otherwise, we are here to help."

Real Madrid currently sits fifth in ranking in La Liga, a statistic that leaves this Madridista quite uneasy.  In spite of this turn of bad luck – the possibility of being down three starters – we have to remain hopeful and believe that our men in white can turn it all around.  Until then, keep calm and ¡Hala Madrid!
