Manchester United victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford

Manchester United received Stoke City at Old Trafford on Saturday for what seemed to be a one-sided 4-2 victory.

The victory places the Red Devils just three points behind Chelsea in overall standings.
Manchester’s starting lineup consisted of De Gea in goal; Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Scholes, Carrick; Valencia, Rooney, Welbeck and Van Persie.

As for Stoke City, the Starting XI consisted of Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross, Huth, Wilson; Walters, Whitehead, Nzonzi, Adam, Kightly, and Crouch.

The game started in the possession of the Red Devils but quickly took a twist on the 11th minute of play when United’s very own Rooney headed the ball into his own net. This frustrating start had many wondering if this season was just not in Rooney’s favor.

Fortunately the equalizer came at the 27th minute of play when Van Persie sent the ball right to Rooney’s forehead. With Ferguson’s attacking trio of Rooney, Welbeck, and Van Persie, it was a difficult task for Stoke's defenders to stop them.

Right at the 45' minute mark, Rooney switched the ball over towards Valencia, who took on Wilson and gave a quick ball to Van Persie, who then switched the ball across Begovic and into the far corner.

The second half opened with a goal from Welbeck. Rooney sent a cross from the right allowing Welbeck to score a superb diving header.

In the 59th minute of play, Stoke's Michael Kightly scored, kicking a low shot past De Gea. However, this did not stop United. In the 65th minute of play, Rooney scored once again with an assist from Welbeck. This marks Rooney’s 200th career goal, making him the first player to score at both ends in a Premier League match for United since David Beckham 11 years ago.

The game ended in United’s favor and the dominance the team had demonstrates a promising sign for the rest of the season.

The next two games are very important for United as they face Chelsea on October 28th and Arsenal on November 3rd for the Premier League.
