Tough luck today, Madridistas. Real Madrid, having once sat on top of the
Group of Death, now move to second within the Champions League
competition. Los Blancos faced Bundesliga
giant Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, losing 2-1. In spite of having greater ball possession,
Real Madrid could not translate possession into an equalizer come final
whistle.
It would be Dortmund to break the deadlock at the 36'
minute mark, with Robert Lewandowski getting past Pepe, calmly shooting into
the bottom right-hand corner. The home
side would not celebrate for long as our very own Cristiano Ronaldo would score
minutes later at the 38'. The
27-year-old scored the equalizer, taking advantage of a through ball from Mesut
Özil. The men went into descanso tied at 1-1.
After the half, Dortmund managed to pull ahead at the
64' minute mark, with a goal by Marcel Schmelzer. Determined.
Los Blancos were more
determined than ever to score. The
remaining 15 minutes of play heavily showcased RM's determination to equalize. However, the equalizer would not come, much
to this Madridista's disappointment.
Don't you fret, fellow Madridistas.
A win at home against Dortmund would give Real Madrid the sole lead of
the Group of Death.
The men will face Mallorca next in La Liga, Sunday,
October 28th at the Iberostar.
Following will be a match in the Copa del Rey, where the men will face
Alcoyano at El Collao Wednesday, October 31st. Until then, keep calm and ¡Hala Madrid!
