CONMEBOL (South American Confederation of Football)
will be celebrating 100 years of existence, and in honor of reaching such a
milestone, the presidents of the association and the executive committee have
agreed to hold a tournament for all Americas – North, Central, and South – in
the land of opportunities.
The highly anticipated event will be called the Copa
America Centenario, which the United States will host in 2016. The tournament will consist of 16 nations: 10
from South America and six from Central and North America.
According to the official CONMEBOL website, the United
States and Mexico will automatically participate in the tournament, while the
final four nations will be chosen based on ranking within the CONCACAF Golden
Cup competition.
